Overview

From being a foster child rescued from abuse, to coming to know the unconditional love of a Christian foster family, to fulfilling God’s purpose for his life by founding and leading Arrow Child & Family Ministries…the journey of Mark Tennant continues to offer hope and healing for children and families through our many ministry programs.

Since beginning in 1992 with foster care, new services and programs have continued to develop and expand as we fulfill our mission of helping kids and strengthening families. We are grateful to have been used by God in the past to change lives, but we are even more excited and humbled by what He will accomplish through our ministry in the future.

2011 Ambassadors Dinner in Maryland

Over 400 Arrow supporters attended our second annual Ambassadors Dinner in Maryland. Our 2011 Ambassador of Purpose honoree, Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., MD. shared his heart during the moving award presentation. Dr. Carson is a nationally renowned pediatric neurosurgeon and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor. Dr. Carson made medical history in 1987 when he led a 70-member surgical team that successfully separated a pair of Siamese twins joined at the back of the head. But in his early years, Dr. Carson was a troubled child. The divorce of his parents and lack of a father figure in his life took its toll. He struggled in school and developed a violent, uncontrollable temper. Thanks to the love and determination of his mother, Dr. Carson discovered his true potential.

The most powerful moments of the evening were special presentations featuring Michael Reagan, country music singer Jimmy Wayne, Arrow Founder and CEO Mark Tennant, and Deborah Cuevas, a former Arrow foster child, who shared their dramatic stories of overcoming personal childhood tragedies. You can view a video of Deborah’s presentation by clicking here.

Honorary Chair Ron Shapiro served as master of ceremonies, and the event co-chairs were Elisabeth and Gerald Marquez, Patricia M. C. Brown and Joseph P. Gill. Melanie Sabelhaus, the 2010 Maryland Ambassador of Purpose award honoree, and Jan Duncan, the 2011 Texas Ambassador of Purpose award honoree were also at the dinner lending their support to Arrow’s mission.
