Dear Friends of Arrow:
We would like to begin this letter by saying "Thank You." As Arrow Child & Family
Ministries ("Arrow") prepared for the anticipated arrival of the children removed from
the Yearning for Zion Ranch in Eldorado, this community responded with an
overwhelming outpouring of support. Although this chapter is over and children have
been returned, the blessings that have come out of this community's efforts to reach out
to these children will gloriously continue. Arrow is so thankful for those of you who
stepped out of your comfort zone and supported the preparations made to care for these
children. We thank you for your monetary donations, your gifts in kind, the giving of
your time, and especially for your prayers for Arrow and the children. We at Arrow
believe that a new chapter has begun as our community will continue to reach out
extraordinarily not only to these children, but to all children in need.
Even though the children have been reunited with their mothers, there continues to be
grave concerns about their safety and well-being. They still need a voice. Arrow's
Michael Reagan Advocacy and Research Center will take an in-depth look at the social,
political and legislative issues that influenced decisions throughout this case, and develop
a policy agenda that addresses these issues. We will also turn our focus towards
supporting mothers who have not returned to the ranch and mothers who may desire to
leave the FLDS community.
Although Arrow will not have the privilege of caring for the children from Eldorado,
there remain thousands of children in our community who are in need. While their plight
may not be as highly publicized, their need is no less real. There are around 25,000
children in foster care throughout the state of Texas, with nearly 4,000 of those in our
own backyard here in the Greater Houston area. It is our hope that recent events will
help shed light on the greater need of all abused and neglected children placed in out-of-
home care across our state. Please continue to pray for all of these children as you
consider ways you may serve in the future. Again, Arrow is so appreciative of your
generosity during these past several weeks. The community stepped up in so many ways
and we want to make sure that your generous gifts go to help hurting children in need.
Many of you spent countless hours helping us improve our Porter property for the sake of
the children. Again, thank you. Your hard work made the place better suited to serve
abused and neglected children, whether from Eldorado or from the surrounding counties.
Rest assured that your sacrifice of time (and sweat) was not in vain. Our Porter property
will be used, as early as this summer, to meet some of the physical, emotional and
spiritual needs of abused children. Children's lives will be positively impacted as a result
of your hard work.
Likewise, during these last several weeks Arrow received literally truck loads of donated
goods for the children. Recreational and household items of all types were selflessly
given by you. Many now wonder, rightfully, what use will be made of those items. Our
intent is simple: we aim to try to first meet the physical needs of the FLDS families who
chose not to return to their former residence. Should those children or their mothers not
have such needs, then we intend upon utilizing the donations for the benefit of the
children in Arrow's care. Presently we have 751 Texas children in our care who have
been rescued from abuse and neglect. Some items may be distributed to these foster
families and others may be put to use at summer camp for foster children at the Porter
facility. We will take great care in making certain that your generosity reaches children in
need. Although children from west Texas may not come into our care, unfortunately we
have plenty of others who will appreciate your gifts.
We give thanks to God for each of you.
Yours for the future of stronger families,

Mark A. Tennant
