Volunteer Opportunities

We at Arrow are convinced that there are people in every community in this country that will step up and take a hurting child into their home to love and nurture. We also realize the majority of people are not in a position to become foster parents, but they still have a heart to help. There is a role for everyone to fill. The Church & Community Alliance Division seeks to build a bridge to provide volunteer opportunities to have a one on one impact in the life of a foster child.

Respite Care: Part time fostering is a wonderful way to serve in the role of a foster parent, without the day-to-day responsibility. This is being a respite provider. You will go through training just like our other foster parents, but instead of taking a child into your home full time, your role is to give our other foster parents a break -- like taking their kids for the weekend.

Mentoring: Foster teens need direction just like any other teen. And just like any other teen, the last person they want advice from is often their parents - foster or not. That is where your influence as a mentor can be invaluable. You could help in a tutoring situation, give advice on a career track, or help teach life skills like balancing a checkbook. Your life experience can help give a foster teen a head start toward a successful adult life.

Prayer Ambassador: Our ministry began in prayer and prayer continues to be critical if we are to be effective in fulfilling our mission. As a Prayer Ambassador we ask you to cover our children, families, and staff with request for God's protection, guidance, provision, and wisdom. Specific prayer requests are posted on our website in our Prayer Embassy 127.

Service Projects: Here are a few suggested projects your group can organize to help make a difference and help make a positive impact in the life of a child:

• Back to School Bonanza - Collect school supplies and school clothing for foster kids so they have what they need when they start back to school.
• Clothe-a-Kid - Many times kids come into foster care with just the clothes on their backs. We can supply your group with the gender and age of a child or sibling group so you can purchase appropriate clothing.
• Christmas for Kids - Sponsor a foster child for Christmas by funding a gift card that our foster parents will use to purchase gifts.
• Welcome Home Baby Shower - Your group can have all the fun and fellowship of a baby shower, then liver the gifts to your local Arrow office for distribution to foster parents when an infant is place in their home.
