Arrow Teams Up with Project Linus for blankets

The Tyler office was pleased to receive a visit from Harla Greenwood, Chapter Coordinator with Project Linus. Ms. Greenwood stopped by the office to make a donation of 50 beautiful new blankets to be given to children entering foster care with little or nothing of their own.

Laranda Howard, AFS and Ashley Cranford, AFS were on hand to receive the donation. Ms. Greenwood stated that the blankets are as important to a child as a person who is sick and just wants to cuddle up in a blanket and escape from the world. She said the blankets are something the children can hold onto and feel a sense of security regardless of their age.

Project Linus is a national non-profit organization that began in 1995. Their mission is to "provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers."

The blankets provided to the Tyler office were made by numerous ladies in Northeast Texas and 4-H students from local schools. Each blanket comes with a poem attached that reads:

I can't be there to hold your hand,
I can't be there to hug you,
I can't be there to dry a tear,
But there is one thing I CAN do.

I can sit here in my room at night
And think of you out there,
And make a blanket just for you
With tender loving care.

When you hold this blanket in your arms
And close your eyes real tight,
You can feel the love I tucked inside
When I made this late one night.

So dry your tears and smile a smile
You aren't alone you see.
You have this special blanket -
You have a part of me.
