Our Program & Campus - Arrow Child & Family Ministries
Helping Kids, Strengthening Families
Arrow’s Freedom Place provides a safe environment that meets the immediate and long-term needs of girls who have suffered commercial sexual exploitation. Arrow’s Freedom Place offers a comprehensive recovery program.
THE RECOVERY PROGRAM AT FREEDOM PLACE INCLUDES:
Substance Abuse Treatment
Psychiatric Evaluation and Treatment
Psychological and Trauma Counseling
High Staff to Child Ratio
Education – Classes that meet accredited curriculum requirements will be conducted on site.
Daily Living Skills – Designed to prepare the girls for independent living, this program will teach personal care, housekeeping, proper nutrition, budgeting, and employment preparation.
Spiritual Needs – What sets Freedom Place apart from other programs is Arrow’s belief that God can truly change lives forever. Arrow serves all in need, regardless of their faith. We will assess each girl’s spiritual needs and offer opportunities for her to learn, grow and mature in her spiritual walk. And with help from our coalition of churches, we will provide a circle of Christian friends and mentors who can help her transition to a new life.
Equestrian Therapy – Freedom Place uses the EAGALA model in our therapy sessions. This is a team approach that includes a licensed credentialed Mental Health Professional, a Qualified Equine Specialist, and horses working together with the residents. All the work is done on the ground with the horses front and center, and they are deliberately left unhindered. The horses are never ridden. They are simply allowed to interact with the residents as they wish. This creates the necessary space for the residents, with the support of the professional facilitators, to reflect, project, and make deep connections.
Reunification with Family/Relatives – We will exhaust every opportunity to successfully reunite the victim with her immediate family or relatives when appropriate. If the child is unable to reunite with her family, we will seek foster care within Arrow’s vast network of Christian families. Or if the girl is of age, we will prepare her to live independently.
110 ACRES OF FREEDOM
The Freedom Place 110 acre campus is located just outside of Houston. Surrounded by forest and dense underbrush, this tranquil setting is the perfect environment for our girls to begin their healing process.
Girls living at Freedom Place enjoy a swimming pool, a covered basketball court, a small lake with canoes, and horses to groom. Set in a clearing in the woods is a Prayer Garden for prayer and meditation. There are also several lighted walking paths that meander through the woods and around the lake.
The living facilities are very comfortable and inviting. In the main house there are two living room areas, two kitchens, areas for socializing and plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms to accommodate 30 girls.
A school building houses a classroom with a fully equipped computer lab with individual desks where the girls attend school daily. A volleyball court and sports field offer plenty of room for outdoor fun and games.
Several low and high ropes elements are available for team building exercises and promoting individual self-confidence.
An equine arena is on campus, where our girls are able to participate in equestrian therapy as part of their treatment.
There are separate facilities for a medical clinic, and administration offices are located on the campus.
Our first priority in all programs is care and safety. We make an active and intentional effort to prevent child abuse, including verbal, physical, emotional or sexual abuse, through implementing strict child safety protocols.
