August is Backpacks & Big Dreams, a campaign that’s more than just a back-to-school drive; it’s a chance to empower children with the tools and confidence they need to succeed. Each backpack represents hope, potential and a fresh start. Through your support, we’re equipping students in need with essential school supplies while reminding them that their dreams are valid, their goals are achievable and their future is bright. Join us in making a lasting impact, one backpack, one dream at a time.
For many children, the start of a new school year brings excitement, but for others it brings stress and uncertainty due to a lack of basic supplies. Arrow’s Backpacks and Big Dreams campaign helps close that gap by providing students with the tools they need to learn with confidence and dignity. A simple backpack filled with school essentials can spark motivation, increase classroom participation and remind a child that their community believes in them and their potential.
Arrow Child & Family Ministries held a back-to-school event on Saturday, Aug. 2, at headquarters, where more than 150 children received new backpacks and school supplies ahead of the upcoming school year!
The event, held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., was a come-and-go celebration for Arrow families.
Children were invited to pick out their own backpacks and supplies from a wide selection made possible by generous community supporters.
“This was more than just a back-to-school event,” Raven Green Director of Development at Arrow said. “It was about dignity and choice which means so much.”
Local partners who made the day possible include New Beginnings Cathedral, Texas Frozen Tropics, McKnight Title, H-E-B, Walmart, Satterfield & Pontikes Construction Company and Family Dental on Louetta.
“Giving youth the opportunity to choose something for themselves, something as personal as a new backpack and supplies, helps build confidence and a sense of normalcy,” Green said. “It is crucial for these children to walk into school on the first day feeling confident, just like their peers.”
More than 60 foster and kinship youth received brand-new shoes, backpacks and school supplies Saturday July 26 during Arrow Child & Family Ministries’ back-to-school event with Famous Footwear and the Ticket to Dream Foundation.
The event, held at the Copperwood Village Famous Footwear store in northwest Houston, gave children the opportunity to pick out their own shoes, try them on and leave with supplies they’ll need to start the school year with confidence.
