Children who come into the foster care system, come with different levels of abuse or neglect. Some come with very little trauma and just need a regular foster home until their parents are able to prove to the courts they are ready to care for their children properly.
Other kids have been traumatized by extreme abuse and possibly prolonged abuse. These children need more than just a safe place to live. They need professional foster parenting help for an extended period. Many will be placed in residential facilities, where they’ll receive therapy and counseling to begin the healing process. But a residential treatment facility is not the best long-term option for many of these children.
Research shows that children who were harmed in a relationship can experience healing in a relationship. So once these children are on their path to healing, their greatest need is to be in a relationship with a real foster parent, in a real home.
Unfortunately, most foster parents aren’t trained to address the needs of these children who have experienced this much trauma. That’s why we’re training Professional Foster Parents who can provide the needed supports to help these most traumatized children heal.
Each month, there are several interactive, live streaming webinars to learn more about foster care and what it takes to become a foster parent. In each webinar, you’ll get an overview of all of Arrow’s foster care programs. And because the webinars are interactive, you can have all your questions answered.
