THE NEED FOR MORE FOSTER PARENTS IN BRAZORIA COUNTY NEVER STOPS BEING CRITICAL

CHRISTIAN FOSTER CARE – BRAZORIA COUNTY

The need for more foster parents in Brazoria County and southeast Texas never stops being critical. But when Hurricane Harvey came through southeast Texas, the homes it distroyed included many foster homes. Now the need for more foster homes is even greater. The simple fact is, there are more kids coming into foster care than there are families training to become foster parents. Sadly, too many of these children are being sent to live in shelters and residential facilities because there simply aren’t enough foster homes. With more churches in Brazoria County than foster kids, all it would take for every child in need to have a real foster home is for one family in each church to foster one child. That’s it.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS TO FOSTER WITH ARROW

The single greatest qualification to become a foster parent is to have a deep desire to help a child who needs you. Beyond that, foster parents are all ages, races and income levels. Foster parents may be married or single, working or retired, renters or homeowners, have children or have no parenting experience at all.

You can get more detailed requirements at one of our monthly information meetings held at each Arrow office, but these are the basic requirements for becoming licensed to foster a child with Arrow:

  • Be at least 25 years of age, financially stable, and a responsible mature adult
  • Marital status cannot have changed for one year
  • Pass a criminal history background check, and abuse/neglect check on all adults in the household
  • Provide personal references from spiritual, business, employment, and social relationships, and at least one personal reference from a relative not living with you

  • Complete a foster parent application
  • Participate in required training
  • Agree to follow all of Arrow’s policies & procedures
  • Have adequate sleeping space
  • Become certified in First Aid and CPR
  • Conduct home fire, health and safety inspections
  • All household members must participate in a comprehensive home study by sharing personal background and lifestyle information

YOUR NEXT STEPS

LEARN ABOUT FOSTER CARE

You and your family are the only ones who can determine if opening your home to a child who needs a temporary home is something you can do. So the first thing you need is information.

No brochure or website can adequately help you make that decision. That’s why we hold webinars twice a week where you can hear all the details about fostering.
